September 14 Meeting: ROI and Measures of Value Added from Technical
Communications

***Meeting is on the Second Thursday of the month

Please join us for the first meeting of the 2006-2007 program year as we
continue to celebrate our 50th anniversary with Technical Communicator
Robert W. Crump. Robert will present "ROI and Measures of Value Added from
Technical Communications." Our Sept. 14, 2006, community meeting is a
joint meeting with the LSC Fort Worth Satellite.

This presentation addresses both financial and non-financial measures of
return on investment (ROI) from technical communications. After the
presentation, attendees will be able to clearly demonstrate the value they
bring to their organizations.

Technical communication professionals must be able to speak the language
of business. By expressing their value in business terms, communicators
can give people who don’t understand technical communications something to
glom onto.

Robert W. Crump

Robert began his technical writing career in 1992 and has been active in
STC for many years. He has worked in various industries from manufacturing
to software and produced both paper and online documentation. He has
presented at both regular STC meetings and at chapter workshops in Texas
and Oklahoma. Robert earned a B.A. degree in English from the University
of Central Oklahoma and an M.B.A. degree from Walden University. He
currently works at Rent-A-Center.

2006 Lone Star STC Competitions: Call for Entries

Have you or your peers put a good deal of time and effort into a technical
communication project this year? Has your team created something you’re
proud of? Are you working on a project that you think will be a “keeper”?
Maybe it’s a “work in progress” and you want some objective feedback. Then
it’s time for you or your team to seek recognition for your hard work and
professionalism.

The time is here to start thinking about entering your work or that of
your team in this year’s STC Lone Star Community’s Competitions. We have
three categories—Online Communications, Technical Publications, and
Technical Art—each with many subcategories designed to address the type of
work that you or your team do.

Entry deadline is Friday, September 22, 2006.

To enter, go to http://www.stc-dfw.org/pages/comp_main.htm and download
the 2006-2007 Competition Entry Form.
