Region 5 Conference: Registration Still Open

The Region 5 Conference, sponsored by LSC this year, is coming to Addison
on November 2 – 4. In homage to the Lone Star Community’s 50th
anniversary, the conference theme is the 50 Facets of Technical
Communication. Sessions are organized into four broad tracks: Usable
Tools, Standards of Practice, Global Perspectives, and Learning and
Leading. With almost 30 sessions, including four half-day workshops on
Saturday afternoon, you will find multiple sessions to interest you.

This year's Region 5 conference has an exciting program, including the
keynote speakers. John Pruitt has agreed to be the opening keynote speaker
and the closing keynote speaker will be Paula LaRocque.

One of the half-day workshops, Public Relations: Getting to the Media and
Writing the Release will be given by local Fox news reporter Jeff Crilley
and LSC's own Elisa Miller. The cost for the half-day workshops is $75,
and requires a separate registration from the conference.

• Non-members $200.00
• Students $125.00

October 26: LSC STC Fort Worth Satellite Meeting

The LSC STC Fort Worth Satellite will meet Thursday, October 26, in the
Chapel Meeting Room at the Fort Worth Central Library (downtown, 500 W.
3rd St. 76102, 817-871-7701) from 6:30 to 8:00 PM. STC Senior Member Paula
Robertson will be presenting "Incorporating User Assistance (Online Help)
into Training."

According to Paula

Paula is not an "expert" or qualified to speak on anything. But as a
technical communications professional (her third career) for over 11
years, she may have picked up something along the way that's worth
sharing. A lone writer for the past four years--that's how she became
involved with co-workers who did on-site training and latched onto the
idea that User Documentation and Training could kill more birds with the
same stone than you'd think! Besides, what's the most valuable, accessible
"leave-behind" material that you can have from on-site training? The
Online Help that's already built in.

A first-time speaker for LSC, Paula insists on being entertaining, if
nothing else. Please come help her out by lending your credibility to this
presentation on how to incorporate user assistance into training, and
enjoy some of Kathy Stark's homemade cookies! Seriously, we just might
learn something in spite of ourselves.
