October 5 Meeting: Success and the Solo Single-Sourcerer
***Meeting is on the FIRST Thursday of the month
Experienced technical communicator and award-winning Managing Editor of
the Technically Write e-newsletter, Douglas Dow will present "Success and
the Solo Single-Sourcerer" at the STC Lone Star Community meeting on
Thursday, Oct. 5, 2006, at the Crowne Plaza North Dallas/Addison Hotel.
"Success and the Solo Single-Sourcerer" offers practical tips, identifies
stumbling blocks, and presents potential, real-world solutions for those
with large workloads, small budgets, and no additional resources. Normally
associated with large companies and enormous budgets, single-sourcing is
gaining as an approach to be used by small departmentseven those staffed
by a lone writer. Doug will show how a single-sourcing solution more than
doubles his productivity, in spite of resource challenges and enormous
workloads.
Douglas Dow
A technical communicator since 1985, Doug has documented military
electronics in New York and equipment-tracking software for the Comanche
Peak Nuclear Station in Glen Rose. He also worked at Texas Utilities and
took a brief ride on the dot-com bubble before joining Kronos as Editor
six years ago.
Doug earned a B.A. degree in English and History from Syracuse University,
earned a B.M. degree in Music Education from the Boston Conservatory of
Music, and pursued further studies at Harvard University. An active STC
member since 1989, Doug has served as parliamentarian, publication
competition judge, Community Service co-chair, and is now in his sixth
year as Managing Editor of Technically Write.
