April 12 Meeting: Beyond Public Speaking Basics: Presenting Technical
Information to Non-Technical Audiences
***Meeting is on the SECOND Thursday of the month.
You are not alone if you still get butterflies when preparing to give a
presentation. Public speaking is the number one fear of American adults.
And communicating specialized information to a non-specialized audience
can be even more challenging.
Dr. Lynne Cooke will present Beyond Public Speaking Basics: Presenting
Technical Information to Non-Technical Audiences at the LSC community
meeting on Thursday evening, April 12, 2007, at the Crowne Plaza North
Dallas/Addison Hotel. Dr. Cooke will explain how the right preparation and
presentation techniques can settle your nerves and dramatically increase
the chances that your non-technical audience can understand and even enjoy
learning about technical content.
Lynne Cook
Dr. Lynne Cooke is an Assistant Professor of Technical Communication at
the University of North Texas where she teaches undergraduate and graduate
courses in technical presentations, usability, and visual communication.
She has presented at several STC annual conferences and published articles
in Technical Communication, Business Communication Quarterly, and
Technical Communication Quarterly. Her current research project, funded by
a $10,000 STC research grant, is an eye-tracking study of Web navigation
menu placement and organization.
