Managing Editor, Technically Write
You will see a different look with this month's Technically Write. This
new look is temporary as we begin considering making the newsletter become
more online rich and less frame-based as you've seen it. For now, bear
with me and what I can provide.
As for content this month, you'll find new features like:
LSC Student Corner, where the Fall Scholarship recipients have written
about what receiving the scholarship means to them and how Sabre has had a
group of students critique its training materials
Event Calendar, where you'll find a clickable calendar that shows you the
local and national events for January and February
You can find the online version only this month at:
http://www.stc-dfw.org/newsletter/0701/LSC_Technically_Write.htm
Next month, I'll work on adding a PDF version to the offerings.
You can email any comments/suggestions you have about this issue to Jackie
Damrau at newsletter at stc-dfw.org.
Of course, I'm looking for articles and software/book reviews for the
upcoming February issue. The deadline for article submission is January
22.
Until then, happy reading!

January 11 Meeting: Celebrate the LSC Competition Winners--Updated
***Meeting is on the Second Thursday of the month
Our annual Awards Banquet is scheduled for Thursday evening, January 11,
2007 at the Crowne Plaza North Dallas/Addison Hotel on Midway Road in
Addison.
This is the time that we celebrate and honor our local STC members and
non-members who competed in this year's Online Communications and
Technical Publications competitions.
This year we had 20 entries, which the Houston STC chapter members judged
for us. Of these 20 entries, we have three Distinguished Technical
Communication awards (two in Online Communications, one in Technical
Publications). These three entries automatically qualify for entrance to
the International Competitions for their respective categories.
Last year, we started a new tradition of having the Parade of Stars, where
we asked select winners to give a 5-10 minute presentation about their
winning entry. This year, you'll be seeing two winning entries from the
Online Communications and Technical Publications competition. We know that
you will enjoy seeing these entries.
As usual, all winning entries will be on display for you to view. You will
have time to mingle with all the winners and personally congratulate them.
So, come help us celebrate by attending this year's Awards Banquet. Even
if you did not win or did not compete this year, attending the banquet is
one way to show our members and our non-member winners that you appreciate
and honor their achievements. For those of you who did win an award, this
is your chance to share your achievement among your peers.
