Web Content Developer/Sr. Technical Writer – On-line Content and Help
Systems

The technology team with one of the world’s internet companies has an
immediate contract opening for a Sr. Technical Writer or Web Content
Developer to join a team that produces on-line content for our latest
advertiser UI application. The contractor will work with a team of
information and web content developers, engineers, managers, and technical
communication professionals to develop and update content for user
assistance web areas. The contractor will deploy content across multiple
applications, while working in a fast-paced, production-oriented
environment.

Type of employee: Full-time contract employee, 3 months.

Start: Immediately

Location: Burbank

Travel: Minimal. Some travel between Burbank and Carlsbad may be required
at the beginning of the contract.

Required experience and skills: 

Strong candidates will have the following skills:

• Five+ years’ experience developing on-line content for user assistance
text.

• Expertise in an industry-standard on-line content platform, such as
WebWorks or RoboHelp.

• Technical writing (concurrent with web content development)

• Experience with CVS versioning systems, as well as basic compilation and
build processes

• Experience with XML and XSLT, as well as CSS

• Experience with the following documentation software applications:
        • Microsoft Word (working with applying styles)
        • Adobe FrameMaker

• Knowledge of standard editorial guidelines, such as the Chicago Manual
of Style.

Other requirements: 

In addition to the skills and experience listed above, the candidate will
need to have the following characteristics:

• Bachelor’s degree in English, Technical Communication, Computer Science,
or similar field

• Flexibility--Ability to handle fluid priorities and deadlines

• Organizational skills--Will need to coordinate with other teams to
efficiently track and audit project deliverables

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• A “team player” attitude--Will interact with different personalities
across departments

• Persistence--Willing to work overtime, in some cases, in order to meet
deadlines

• Quality minded—Will need to QA deployed content
Desirable: The ideal candidate will have one or more of the following:

• Familiarity or comfort with foreign languages, as this position may
requires the conversion (not translation) of some non-English source
documents to other forms.

• Experience working with Content Management Systems and large-scale
knowledge base applications.
