Of course, as we know, the Dept of Labor has a very antiquated
definition of a "technical writer," which STC is attempting to update.

Keith, does your company use market salary data? Salary.com is free, but
there are other services that provide it. 

I believe you'll find confirmation for higher pay using those sources. 

They have job definitions so you can match up the responsibilities of
your job applicants with their descriptions.

This has been my experience, but it might just be the environment I'm
in. Feel free to chime in on that as well.

 

The US Department of Labor says the bottom end of the Tech Writer scale
is around 31K.
