I am happy to work on #4, but, like Deborah, I don't want to chair
it. I can also work on #3, but not until very end of Sept.
Why is the call so late?????????????
Thanks for your work, Tommy.

STC Academic Community Members,
Thank you to all of you who responded to the STC Academic Community
planning survey. The results showed support for the following
initiatives:
* Collecting and disseminating all scholarship, awards, and
competition information to students. This project would entail
sending inquiries to all chapters and communities and assembling
the results according to the three categories. We would then make
the information available in as many venues as possible, such as
the STC AC list, and other STC lists.
* AC sponsoring of the Student Poster Competition. This project
entails managing the competition this year. All the forms are in
place. The process is: announce, remind, collect posters in the
spring, review in early spring, announce acceptance, coordinate
display with STC office, coordinate pre-conference judging (form
available), coordinate conference judging, award winners, take pictures.
* AC sponsoring of a Progression session at STC 55. This
project requires you to put out a call on the AC announcement list
(I'll coordinate the announcements), receive and review abstracts,
select presenters, submit the panel, remind the presenters, run the
panel at the conference. Due date for STC 55 presentation
proposals is October 19, but the call hasn't yet gone
out. Conference date: June 1-4, 2008.
* AC sponsoring of a research panel at STC 55. This project
requires you to do a preliminary call to find out who is doing
research that is appropriate, and whether they want to present
it. Rather than just send out a call and waiting, I think it's
better to solicit and encourage, so that we have strong projects to
put on the panel. Due date for STC 55 presentation proposals is
October 19, but the call hasn't yet gone out. Conference
date: June 1-4, 2008.
I need volunteers for all these projects: people to manage them and
people to be on the teams. Please send me your preferences for
which team you'd like to join, and whether you'd be interested in
managing. I will work with you to get your team set up,
put information on the web for you, and help coordinate all
activities. I plan to submit a revised budget, based on volunteer
efforts, to subsidize conference fees (in the range of $100 to
$200) for managers of projects 3-4. I can also submit budget
revisions (with strong business cases) for any expenses for these
projects.
I look forward to hearing from you. Let's make this a great year
for the STC Academic Community.
