A Parable for Bill Cook

The illustration was to show what is happening with the organization.
STC has raised dues substantially over the last few years. At the same time, 10,000 members have left the society.
And, you are right--why are they hiring and expanding services that seem to go unused and/or un-accessed by the members?
The dynamic is wrong.
I keep getting told to post my feelings on a bulletin board for the organization. I have my membership card at my elbow, I've entered my ID and password which is not apparently working, and I've requested my password.
Yet, there has been no response to my request.
If all of the new benefits are web based, I guess that I am not invited to use the services.

Or, if you don't have money, bring a sack lunch!
I understand the economics involved for the organization. I also
understand that costs must rise. Unfortunately, for most academics--and
I include students in this category--salaries and other forms of
compensation do not always keep up with inflation. Faculty here recently
received a 3.5% salary increase, but that's the first in several years.
As for our students, many work, raise families, and attend college even
as the cost of living and tuition increase. Seems to me STC should be
trimming rather than expanding. Why is STC hiring people to conduct
studies (salary survey), to liase with the community, and so on (please
see Linda's recent letter)? If the organization worked with the academic
community, they might be able to find some researchers capable--even
interested--in doing such work.
If you don’t have money, don’t eat out.
There is no such thing as a free lunch.
