"People to People was not founded by President Eisenhower.

A New York Times story dated June 10, 1958, stated the
People to People Foundation was formed to "implement a 1956 proposal by
President Eisenhower to promote international understanding."

That non-profit foundation, the paper wrote, was organized in 1957 and
President Eisenhower served as its honorary chairman.

The 1958 Times article also stated the People to People Foundation had
recently dissolved because "it had served its purpose."

ConsumerAffairs.com found records records
in the Missouri Secretary of State's office that reveal a non-profit
organization called People to People International -- founded to
"encourage and promote in every way possible contacts between citizens
of the United States and people of other lands =E2=80=93 was incorporated on
October 31, 1961.

President Eisenhower's name, however, is not listed on those
records, either. They list Alfred Frankfurter, Franklin Murphy, and
Joyce C. Hall as the incorporators."

By the way, if you want to purchase an adult P2P China tour, you can do so
on their website for about $500 less than the stated cost for the STC
sponsored trip. So, again it appears that the STC board members may be
receiving a free trip for every group of 12-15 trips purchased by the STC
members.=20

If it looks like a fish, and smells like a fish, it must be a fish. And this
is certainly a fishy organization. They prey on the egos of students and
adult leaders by inviting them to lead and/or join "delegations" to market
group travel by a for-profit, publicly traded, company called Ambassadors
Group. Ambassadors Group uses the mailing lists provided by leaders like the
STC board to market their for-profit trips.

This is the same tactic that "Whose Who in America" uses to sell overly
expensive directory books to those who need the ego stroke of being
"nominated to appear in this prestigious publication." The "nomination" is
simply a marketing ploy to have you pay a fee for the book and listing.=20

This is deceptive marketing and must be acknowledge as such by those who
perpetrated this on our professional organization.

I would like the board to apologize for this boondoggle. This is another
example of why the national STC does not meet my professional needs.

This investigation and write-up was a lot of work. <br>

I have heard of P2P before. From the little I learned then, I didn't trust<b=

them. Your research now confirms my suspicions.<br>

I'll bet that, despite all you've found and told us, the Board will refuse<b=

to admit they may have made a mistake.<br>

 I invested some of my personal time to review the People to People<br>
organization. There are several online tools that review and rate charities<=
br>
and educational foundations. I have been unable to find one of the respected=
<br>
organizations that rates People to People. And, this lack of review and<br>
rating for an organization that states it has a fifty year history is more<b=
r>
than a little suspicious.<br>
<br>
<br>
<br>
The organization is a 501(c)3 organization and has filed its IRS990 forms.<b=
r>
They have paid their chief executive, Mary Eisenhower, in excess of<br>
$150,000.00 (U.S.) in 2005. This is a lot of money for a non-profit<br>
humanitarian organization's chief executive. The organization is<br>
headwquartered&nbsp; in Kansas City MO, so there is little need to provide f=
or<br>
living expenses that are incurred by CEOs who manage charities in cities<br>
like NYC, Los Angeles, San Francisco, etc.<br>
<br>
<br>
<br>
There is a recent Iowa Attorney General investigation on their student<br>
recruiting (direct mail advertising program). You can find more information<=
br>
at:<br>
<br>
<br>

<a href=3D"http://www.consumeraffairs.com/news04/2006/09/people2people02.htm=
l" target=3D"_blank">http://www.consumeraffairs.com/news04/2006/09/people2pe=
ople02.html</a><br>
<br>
There is also a recent wrongful death lawsuit filed against the organization=
<br>
due to a student who died in Tokyo last summer. You can find all of this<br>
information on the website listed above.<br>
<br>
<br>
<br>
I work with non-profits clients, and I was an executive for a travel<br>
magazine. These type of "group travel opportunities" are marketing tools.<br=
>
Linda O states that the trip will not go forward if there are not 15<br>
participants. Well, with "twelve you get egg roll"--is a marketing tool as<b=
r>
well. <br>
<br>
<br>
<br>
It appears that the board did not perform necessary due diligence before<br>
releasing our personal information to a travel marketer with a convincing<br=
>
twist.<br>
<br>
P2P lists a Los Angeles (close to my home) adult chapter on their website<br=
>
which links to a chapter website that hasn't been updated in two years. So,=
<br>
it is impossible for me to personally get involved with an international<br>
organization that lists hundreds of chapters. I rarely support "charitable"<=
br>
organizations that I am not given an opportunity to volunteer in or<br>
participate in.<br>
