Hi all,

fyi, the last date Erica has on the books for us is May 23, 2006. She does not have any room reservations past this date.

Do you have the dates for next year? No meetings for June, July, and August, right?

We can incorporate the voting theme into the seminar announcements and also
mention that people should vote early or at least earlier in the day. If we
can make this a small seminar format, which would be my preference, it won't
matter. Folks who pay for it will arrange their schedules accordingly.

Speaking of paying, is anyone going to the STC Conference? And if so, want
to share a room?

I think scheduling the meeting on election day will help guarantee low
turnout. For someone :-)

(Hi Joy, hope you don't mind being in on this conversation? Wasn't sure if I
should leave your address on there.)

My perspective:

I lived in Dripping Springs. It was exceptionally difficult to coordinate
the polling place and work being 35 miles away from each other - missed
voting due to late-breaking late work more than once.
Finally learned to tell work I'd be late in the AM and line up at 6AM with
the rest of the voting commuters. Seriously, the AM lines are so long that
you are at the end of a long line even at that early hour. If I still lived
there then I'd probably end up missing the meeting due to working late to
make up for missed hour in the AM. Or I'd just be tired and ready for a good
meal and nap before watching the returns.

Remember the long lines in November 2005? Even with a planned
work/vote/meeting scheme, some people will miss the meeting if the lines are
long.

Our casual members, even if they (1) can get to the early voting place when
its open and (2) have enough info to make an early decision, might not think
to vote early just so they can attend an STC meeting.

24 hour window to vote, Internet, or allowing people to cast ballots in a
different county are solutions, but its not within our scope to mandate
those changes.

Just my two cents, I'll abide by any decision you all make. My experiences
might be unique.

Tamara

The calendar doesn't get fixed until towards the end of the season.
About tomorrow, I can go over my emails about details on scheduling for both
board and chapter meetings (based on my having done Hospitality for 2 yrs).
I will also fwd details about contact people and time-sensitive dates for
the library & MCC. Usually, the November meeeting dates float because of
Veteran's Day and/or some National STC event.

It might be good to try solidifying FY07 dates at the next board meeting. As
the proposed date for the special chapter meeting is the first Tuesday in
November, how should the bd mtg be handled? It usually precedes the ch mtg
by one week. If that's the case, it'd be on Halloween. If we keep it to the
3rd Tuesday, it'd follow the ch mtg. An onkine calendar
link--http://www.timeanddate.com/calendar/

I myself don't see a problem w/scheduling the ch mtg on an election day.
Polls are open 7 to 7, leaving plenty of time to cast ballots, not
withstanding early voting. Obtaining news coverage should not conflict w/the
presentation, imho. --Wanda
