with text this time -- draft solicitation for 2006-2007 volunteers

Hi, Kay!

The online competition hasn't gone away.
We have merged the print and online competitions, as
there's more overlap every year. We get "online"
entries that come with big printed books, and we get
"print" entries that come with CDs.
The distinction can be completely arbitrary, and
requiring that distinction has become an exercise in
making rules for the sake of having rules.

We no longer do an online judging day. The judges
assess entries on their own computers, at their
convenience.

This means that different judges experience the
entries in different ways, because their computers are
set up in different ways.
This is a *good* thing - if your web site works for
some people but not for others, you really need to
know that you're delivering an unpredictable user
experience.

It's easier to have a single competition than to run
two in parallel. So that's what we've been doing.

Karen
