with text this time -- draft solicitation for 2006-2007 volunteers

Well, it seems like we have enough trouble finding people to take the
jobs that we have, and we don't seem to have much luck at all finding
help for the committee managers that need help. For the number of active
members we have, we have a lot of committees and very few people helping
out in them. For example, when I worked on the Houston competitions
committee, although I admit it was larger competition than ours, we had
about 20 people helping with various aspects, not counting the 40
judges. When Ginny and I were running the competitions, we were doing
almost all of it ourselves with some help from Hospitality and Treasury
on the banquet, and I think Karen has had even less help.
Although I have nothing per se against the idea of adding positions, I
think it would be a good idea to do a better job of staffing the
committees we have. For most positions, the "committee" is the manager,
doing the work all alone.

The new positions are good ideas.
Adding positions requires board approval. It would be good to have a
position description suitable for inclusion the P&P manual as part of
the proposal.
Adding a director probably requires a bylaws amendment. (Currently the
bylaws say we have 3 directors, so they need to be updated.)
I checked the bylaws for committee mgr appointment procedures and will
amend the notice.
