Based on the input we have so far and what other orgs charge, here are the
ranges I'd like to propose we set as our outside ranges.
_____
Payments (assumes that they bring their own materials)
Speakers at meetings (less than 2 hrs) -- $0 - 75 (some exceptions
for speakers who travel)
Speakers at seminars 1-3 hours -- $50 - $150 (typical) to $100 -
$300 ("distinguished speaker" series)
Speakers at seminars 4-6 hours -- $100 - $200 (typical) to $200 -
$400 ("distinguished speaker" series)
Presenters at workshops 2-3 hours -- $100 - $150 (typical) to $200 -
$300 ("distinguished speaker" series)
Presenters at workshops 3-5 hrs -- $150 - $250 (typical) to $250 -
$450 ("distinguished speaker" series)
Presenters at all-day workshops -- $200 - $300 (typical) to $300 -
$500 ("distinguished speaker" series)
Presenters at 2-day workshops -- $300 - $500 (typical) to $500 -
$900 ("distinguished speaker" series)
Charges for STC Austin to repro speaker's materials from their masters
-- $0.15/page B&W, color negotiable
Does not include expenses, which could be negotiable, but we need a
range and cap for those as well.
"Distinguished Speaker Series" would be a very well-known and compelling
presenter. Might also include an expense reimbursement.
_____
Fees to Attend
STC-Austin Members STC Prof or Student
Members Non-Members
(professional, student, (not in STC Austin
geo) (any others)
or faculty) or Other
Faculty
Regular Meetings none $2
$5
Special Meetings* ??? ???
???
Short Seminars ** $20-50 $30-60
$50-95
All-Day Seminars $40-90 $50-100
$70-120
Short Workshops $40-90 $50-100
$70-120
All Day Workshops $80-180 $100-200
$130-230
2-Day Workshops $150-250 $180-280
$220-320
Fees would be charged to everyone, even STC volunteers at the events.
The number of volunteers needed for each seminar or event will be
determined by the Seminars Manager
in conjunction with the Director of Education & Programs.
* such as the Competition awards meeting
** Fee needs to cover food in the event that it is served. All events other
than regular meetings need to result in positive cash flow.
_____
This is merely a starting point. Come with your ideas and let's hash this
out at the Leadership Meeting. Let's NOT use email for this. We can close
this issue Saturday and notify the speakers immediately thereafter. Once we
have ranges, then Marian and Joy can negotiate as necessary. If anything
falls outside of the range, it comes back to the Board for a vote.
BTW, Now you have in the header of this email both listservs and the aliases
of all the current-year volunteers.
_____
Looking forward to seeing you all at the Leadership meeting on Saturday at
9-5. We will have a great workshop presenter, Morgain Hall to get us started
during our light breakfast. Then, we'll do the workshop and have lunch, then
on to the business part of the meeting. Please send me and Leah a list of
any issues you want to bring up so we can add them to the agenda. Also, if
you have dietary considerations or anything else that we need to know,
please send us email. Don't forget to RSVP on evite so we keep the headcount
straight and can order the appropriate amount of food. If you cannot attend,
please let me and Leah know what's up, and we can arrange a time to meet
with you, perhaps before the first Board meeting. However, the workshop is
going to be great and its purpose is to get us all working together as a
team. Please do your best to be there and be on time.

Hi Tom,
I have a draft of a message I plan to send to speaker Kay Ethier that asks
if there a difference in payment expectations for a Half day Workshop vs. a
1 - 2 Hour Presentation. She is the one who has 2 options.
Once I find that out, we can figure out which amount of time we want.
The problem is - I don't want her to set the Rates.
I had one potential speaker in 2004 who wanted $2500.00 just to speak to us.
And that was her rate for Non-Profits!!!
I found someone else for free instead.
I need a starting point, that's why I asked Andy, David, & Karen for
previous amounts for seminar speakers.
I haven't seen Speaker rates in at least 7-8 years, so I'm not sure where to
begin, but I don't think we can afford thousands of $$.
I was thinking of suggesting to Kay Ethier amounts like $50 for a 1-2 hr
Preso or $100 for a 3-4 Hr workshop.
If she wants more, we can negotiate from there.
Does that sound reasonable to everyone?
Thank you,
Marian
