STC AUSTIN WEBSITE AGENDA ITEMS

Dear Seth,
***Board Members, can these questions be addressed in the next board
meeting? or Can we discuss this online and get some firm, QUICK
resolution. I sense urgent concerns from Seth, and they are valid. ***
Yes, I agree these are issues we need to correct.
1. Blogspot content is archived on the blogspot server and I download
each months compiled archive to my harddrive. Notice that the blogspot
has automatic monthly archives. It is one HTML file, which is cool. I
like it. But it should be archived with the rest of the STC Austin
webinformation.
2. Tell me more about the stcaustin server. Who is the host? How much
does it cost? What is the username? What is the password? How much
server space is given it? What backup method has stcaustin used? Do we
HAVE backup CDs of prior years? Is there a P&P written for it? All
these questions must be addressed in the P&P, plus a Contingency plan
when we lack adequate support to manage the site. Such as now, I think,
if I'm sensing your urgency correctly.
3. As for Web Volunteers: we will address this issue at Leadership
Training or at a meeting? You could also post a request for volunteers.
I volunteered to help you Aug 05, you only asked for a CSS sheet, which
I gave you. I asked you several times to let me know what I could do to
help you out Sep - Nov. I got bored waiting for a response. I also would
like to see that javascript you wrote. So, I need access to the
stcaustin website, like I had in prior years, but you changed the
password, and I never could get on to see what was going on.
I understand your busy schedule and I respect that. You have also done a
clean design for the website. You list a volunteer as Cactus is he/she
an active contributor?
4. The next board meeting is next Tues Night. I can't attend, so if
these items make it to the AGENDA, then I assure you lots of balls
will be rolling. I didn't get verification that adding me as
Publications Director even made it to Agenda, so I assumed its not. I
have AIR training at ST.Edwards that night so I cannot attend.
5. As for Publication Director/Web Committee duties: "Directors serve as
consultants to the board of directors and as mentors for the Chapter.
Directors attend all board meetings and assume an active role in at
least one committee. Directors perform such other duties as the
president or board may assign." There is no mention of a Publications
Director or the Web Committee in the Bylaws. Did I overlook them?
Maybe the Bylaws need to be modified? I don't know. If they aren't
there then I request that we modify the BYLAWS to P&P these duties.
I like that you have identified what the Publications Director should
do? What does the Web Manager and Web Committee do? Yes, it is too much
for one person. But we could add php scripting and each board
member/officer can be responsible that the appropriate webpage is
updated. I don't know how to do this, but some PHP savvy chicks have
shown me their work and the end-user just types the new info into
fields, and then Presto it displays on the webpage. That could be an
avenue to explore.
Currently, I am webpublishing for the Austin Macromedia Users Group
website and entered the AIR competition for Knowbility.org. So, you can
see I cannot volunteer to assist you this late in the term. I could of
at the beginning of this STC term, but since Dec I've redirected my
interests to other active non-profit organisations. And I have a
full-time job too. So, you can see I do not have time to assist the Web
Committee. Perhaps in the Summer. We'll see.
I'm sorry you are over-worked and wish that we could have met
personally to work out these details early in the year. My laptop and I
knock out a lot of logistic, design, and development issues quickly. I
could have been a tremendous asset to your goals. I like your spirit
and I liked that you took command and charged right in. You gotta love
a brother for doing that.
Do you have any other candidates in mind, that can assume this role
after you answer the question #2?
