Welcome, all of you, to a new year for the Austin Community of STC. It is 
an honor to serve you as president this year.  I hope to see many of you at 
tonight's meeting.

We are also exploring what we're doing now that we can do better and coming 
up with new ideas for activities and services.  We want you to have a voice 
in our planning: you can expect a survey on value soon.

We are discussing the changes the national organization has been 
making.  You have an individual voice to national, of course. We also would 
like to know your opinions in order to form our plans and proposals.  Key 
issues: the allocation of dues, the amount of dues, and the expenses the 
national organization incurs.  Expect to hear more from us soon on that.

The chapter's board of directors and committee managers are here to serve

Want to help your career growth, make contacts, and talk with other 
technical communications professionals?  Volunteering to work on a 
committee is a hugely effective way to do that. And think about your career 
growth: serving as a chapter manager or on the board gives you all of that 
and gives you a personal voice in setting our direction.
