October Chapter Meeting and Program
Exploring and Implementing Embedded Help
Paul Mueller, President of UserAid
Tuesday, October 2, 2007
Embedded Help systems answer users' questions without requiring them to ask for help. The information is available when and where it is needed. Users get the support they need without leaving the task they are working on. This discussion reviews various strategies for embedding user assistance in both Web and non-Web user interfaces. We will discuss several techniques using JavaScript to implement embedded solutions.
About the Speaker
Paul Mueller is President of UserAid, which designs and implements innovative communication solutions. UserAid focuses on delivering information when and where users need it. Paul received a B.S. in Computer Science and a B.S. in Mathematics from Pennsylvania State University and has been involved in technical communication for more than 20 years. Paul has designed and implemented embedded help solutions since 1998 and wrote "Designing an Embedded Help Solution" for the Technical Communication journal.
Paul Mueller speaks frequently about embedded user assistance at conferences and events, including WritersUA and Society for Technical Communication (STC) conferences. Methods to deliver information continue to change and our roles within our organizations also change. Many groups are taking ownership and responsibility for the complete user experience, rather than focusing on only the supporting documentation. Paul presents information about these changes and helps you continue to develop new, innovative ways of delivering information.
