Message-ID: Hello, I'm considering attending the upcoming meeting that covers FrameScripts and I'm trying to get a feel as to whether or not it would be helpful at this stage in my career. I'm new to technical writing (having recently completed a certificate program at Duke) and not yet working in the technical writing field. I've recently started learning FM and know just the basics at this point. Do you feel it would be good to get some exposure to FrameScripts for future use, or should I wait until I'm a little more familiar with FM? You don't necessarily have to know how to create a Framescript. It would be valuable to know that some tedious tasks can be automated w/ a Framescript and to be able to use those scripts. Come for those two objectives. Usually the Frame meetings have an intro of a basic FM topic, too. Jenna Moore, Simon Bate, and I showed off our FrameScript scripts, Jeff Blackwood won the PrintChangedPages plug-in, and we handed out Rick Quatro's CD of free scripts. Here are some FrameScript resources for downloading free scripts and developing scripts. If you know of some helpful FrameScript web sites, please do share. I'll add the links to the FrameMaker SIG web page at http://www.stc-carolina.org/sigs/frame/index.shtml. Links to free scripts: http://www.itl.de/html/englisch/consulting/fsl/itl-pool.html http://members.shaw.ca/philip.sharman/FrameScript.htm http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~mjgs/ Here's a tutorial Rick Quatro wrote on developing FrameScripts: http://www.frameexpert.com/tutorials/index.htm If you do decide to write your own scripts, you'll need his FrameScript Crash Course, a 338-page book with real-world examples and tutorials. You can even copy and paste FrameScript code from the accompanying CD.
