Hi,
I'm the solo tech writer at a small telecom company. We recently translated
GUI, help files, and quick references from English to French, and hope to do
more as the products change and as new target languages/markets are
selected. I am the contact person for the translation agency we use. I have
a background in French and Linguistics (ancient past), but no recent
training in localization, etc. 

I am interested in machine translation and other computer-aided translation
tools, and also in how to write and format documents intended for
translation.

I attended the STC Region 7 conference in 2002 in Vancouver BC, and learned
much from presentations focusing on translation and internationalization. I
see that the 2003 conference in Calgary includes "Writing, Editing, and
Translating" as one of the tracks/paths. Hope I can make it to Calgary,
unfortunately I cannot make the STC-50 conference in Dallas.
