I work in a bioinformatics group that makes genomic information available online, so I'm interested in informative ways to present genomic information visually. -Annette On Jan 31, 2005, at 6:36 AM, Nathaniel Bobbitt wrote: > I am new to this group. > > I am looking for others interested in how scientific visualization > informs technical communication, basic research, and the capacity to > simulate and model. > =::=::=::=::=::=::=::=::=::=::=::=::=::= Annette Greiner Web Developer Genome Data Systems DOE Joint Genome Institute 2800 Mitchell Drive Walnut Creek, CA 94598 (925) 296-5728 www.jgi.doe.gov =::=::=::=::=::=::=::=::=::=::=::=::=::= From Lucille.Lattanzi at engelhard.com Wed Feb 23 07:38:55 2005 From: Lucille.Lattanzi at engelhard.com (Lucille.Lattanzi at engelhard.com) Date: Wed, 23 Feb 2005 09:38:55 -0500 Subject: Self-education/ chemistry for personal care Message-ID: Hello, everyone: If anyone has resources or ideas regarding workshops/training on chemistry and technology used for personal care materials, please send let me know. I am talking about cosmetics, hair and skin care, for both men and women. I've checked the NY chapter of the SCC (Society of Cosmetic Chemists) without much luck. Thanks in advance for your ideas. I understand.. I've worked with people of both genders who are oblivious to the awful effect of their copiously applied artificial scent. To everyone: I did find one organization that offers classes on scientific topics, scholarly publishing, and writing skills for the scientist : the American Medical Writers Association. Most classes are given at chapter meetings. A few basic subjects are available on CD. Has anyone had any experience with this group? For the curious: http://www.amwa.org Thanks in advance for your feedback! No personal experience with them yet. My approach to self-education is to hit up local professors via e-mail or telephone to ask them about suitable beginning (or advanced, more rarely) textbooks in a field. I then hit abebooks.com to see if I can find a used copy. I then spend the next year working through the text, a chapter at a time, in gaps between my other duties. Re-taught myself genetics this way, and hope to begin on microbiology later this year, followed by cognitive science. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Geoff Hart ghart at videotron.ca (try geoffhart at mac.com if you don't get a reply) www.geoff-hart.com - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - From amgreiner at lbl.gov Mon Feb 28 16:13:24 2005 From: amgreiner at lbl.gov (Annette Greiner) Date: Mon, 28 Feb 2005 15:13:24 -0800 Subject: Self-education/ chemistry for personal care In-Reply-To: References: Message-ID: Yes! I was a member for many years, when I was doing freelance medical writing. They are a really great group. They offer classes in medical communication and related topics (like statistics, tables and graphs, writing INDs and NDAs, medical english usage, etc.). I remember taking a short course on pharmacology for science writers that was good. If they are offering something that sounds like what you want, it's likely to be worth your while. They also offer classes at their annual conference. There may be a regional conference in your area, too. -Annette On Feb 28, 2005, at 5:26 AM, Lucille.Lattanzi at engelhard.com wrote: > the American > Medical Writers Association. > Has anyone had any experience > with this group? > =::=::=::=::=::=::=::=::=::=::=::=::=::= Annette Greiner Web Developer Genome Data Systems DOE Joint Genome Institute 2800 Mitchell Drive Walnut Creek, CA 94598 (925) 296-5728 www.jgi.doe.gov =::=::=::=::=::=::=::=::=::=::=::=::=::=
