[stcusesig_l] ideas for WUD - World Usability Day

Hi Karen,

Maybe Chauncey will forgive me for jumping in here. I think there are two things about WUD that makes it wonderful -
 - first, we're trying to raise the world's consciousness about Usability. To me, that means we need to try to hold INclusive events, where we help other people (whoever they might be) see the light. Or maybe a light-bulb, if that's they way you think about getting ideas.
 - second, the theme for each year's event can be an inspiration, a loosely organizing factor, or perhaps even a tightly coupled part of any one event.

I liked the idea of the "transportation" theme because it's so broad.
    Is walking transpo? YES
How about taxis and busses? YES
    Air travel? YES
Cars? YES What about cars? ANYTHING YOU LIKE
Maps? YES (including mashups, if they somehow help reach out to people, and if they involve usability somehow)
    Signage? YES
    Trucking and Logistics? YES
ETC.

I've been working with Susan Fowler and a host of other talented people to pull together the issue of User Experience magazine (that's the UPA's member magazine) that will come out just before World Usability Day. It's shaping up to be a terrific issue (can't give away too much here), and it touches on several of the items in the list above as well as others.

I'm sure your event will be stunning, when you've nailed it down. Especially if you can find a way to make it INclusive. That will also make it more fun.

Let us know what you end up with--
