It seems to be September 29th. It's the feast of St. Michael. I didn't know
that until I looked it up just now. I always knew that Michaelmas term was
the autumn term (sorry, antipodeans) because the Michaelmas daisies come out
then.
For completeness, the four quarter days are:
March 25th
June 24th
September 29th
December 25th.
The rubric for remembering them is that the second digit changes according
to the number of letters in the month, apart from Christmas Day which UK
people don't need a rubric to remember.
