Valerie, there's also The Web Application Design Handbook, by Fowler and Stanwyck, which you can buy or read the preface of on the FAST Consulting website: http://fast-consulting.com/Preface.htm -- and don't worry about the publication date, they've always been way before their time.

If you're really talking a web application, then I think Susan (a longtime member of this community) and Victor may have some excellent answers for you.
